It looks good in the pictures but they do not do it justice as it looks far better in the flesh and the quality of the paint job is truly stunning.
New discs and a rear disc brake conversion to do away with the inferior drums, new handbrake cables and pipes etc, uprated suspension with gas struts and uprated springs all round. Full custom made twin pipe stainless steel exaust system, 17 inch Wolfrace Voodoo alloys with low profile 40 tyres. Modified bumpers incorporating spots, duel exits for the tail pipes and adapted to accomodate the rear number plate which used to be in the tailgate. As you can see, the tailgate has been modified to remove the numberplate recess. The boot handle as been removed and converted to electric opening.
The door mirrors have been replaced with ones incorporating indicators. Front and rear lights updated also. Recaro interior fitted as well.
The bodywork was fully restored and treated to a proper strip down door and bonnet and boot off respray, not just the usual superficial blow over, this car has been done properly and it took about a year to complete. The job was started in 2003, finished in 2004 and then spent a year travelling all over the country attending VW shows. Then kids came along and all the fun with the car stopped, as the last tax disc shows, which expired in 2005.
The car has sat unused then for the last 8 years but he couldn’t bring himself to part with it as he had done so much work on it. The time eventually came to sell it when the garage space was needed for other purposes so it was listed on eBay to give someone the chance to own something really special for a fraction of the build cost.
The seller said he put the jump leads on her today and she fired up straight away and purred like a kitten, how amazing is that after 8 years.
It is a cheaper to insure 1.6 litre, not an expensive Gti, but it still has plenty of power with it’s twin choke carb. 107,000 miles only which is nothing for one of these exellent 1600cc motors.
